In a deeply disturbing revelation, Karnataka police have arrested eight individuals in connection with the cold-blooded murder of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty — a killing rooted in revenge, a well-planned conspiracy, and a contract deal worth ₹5 lakh. The case has sent shockwaves across the coastal city of Mangaluru, sparking anger and unrest within the Hindu community.
Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara confirmed the arrests on Saturday, describing the murder as a “pre-meditated act of violence driven by vengeance.” Those apprehended include the alleged mastermind Abdul Safwan, a driver from Shantigudde, along with Mohammed Muzammil, a salesman employed in Saudi Arabia, and Mohammed Rizwan of Jokatte. Other accused include Kalandar Shafi, Adil Mahroof, and Ranjit Nagaraj.
The attack took place on May 1, 2025, in Kinnipadavu village, under Bajpe police station limits. Suhas Shetty, accompanied by five others, was ambushed by assailants wielding swords and machetes. The savage assault — captured on CCTV — continued even after he fell to the ground. A horrifying video circulating online shows two burqa-clad women, believed to be relatives of the accused, near the crime scene. Police have taken them in for questioning.
Shetty was rushed to AJ Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries. His death has sparked massive protests by Hindu organizations across Mangaluru and Bantwal, with VHP calling for a bandh, which saw wide compliance across the city.
The BJP has come down heavily on the Congress government, accusing it of “failing to protect Hindus” and “turning a blind eye to rising Islamic radicalism.” BJP State Secretary and MP Brijesh Chowta has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) take over the probe.
Suhas Shetty’s last rites were performed in his hometown of Bantwal, attended by thousands of supporters, BJP leaders, and local residents. In a show of solidarity, the BJP announced ₹25 lakh financial aid for the bereaved family.
Three vehicles used in the crime have been seized. Weapons, reportedly used in the attack, were recovered from one of the cars. Investigators are also probing a now-deleted Instagram page called “Target Killer“, which had previously issued threats to Suhas and other Hindu activists.
